Goodbye 2007 & Welcome 2008I have to say 2007 have treated me quite well. Afterall it in 2007 that I learned more about myself and about other people and things in life. Here is the list of 2007 highlights (not the complete list tho, since I cant possibly rem everything) according to the start of the year to the end...
- 2007 started as one of the most emotional year for me, since then I already know my Bf will be going to Adelaide to studying for 3 years and possibly working thereafter for 2 more yrs.
- I then had also planned to go on an exchange program to either canada, NZ or Aust. Of cuz with a twist of fate and god's plan, the only placing in Aust had to be in Adelaide, In adelaide uni which is just beside my bf's own Uni. Imagine our schools are closer then SIM is to Ngeeann poly.
- CNY came and went, bf left in end feb and the next few mths consist of webcaming, msning and emailing. Its tough but it kinda brought me closer to my family and some friends. Friends like Aiwei have been there to hear the all crying all bubbering me which I am so grateful for.
- Then came the end of a horrible semester. More back stabbing, sucky grpmates and of cuz sucky profs.
- Soon it was my Birthday in June... I had frds, I had my family, but you will understand it aint not the same without one's bf/gf.
- Finally, all flight settled, Ade Uni Settled, everything is in placed and ready for me to go over to Adelaide to start my exchange!! Freaking excited and anxious that I cant eat a bite of the farewell dinner at crystal jade courtesy of mummy dearest. My first alone flight on my start time on SQ. Seat is good, food is more good *grinz* and a couple hours slp and snap! In adelaide!! Managed to find the lady to drive me to my accomodation, met my bf for the first time in 4 mths OMG, my first tot "he looked like a monkey!! So skinny". By then mummy and sis are already on MSN asking patrick if I have arrived. After informing my parents of my safety, its out to meet 2 new frds (WH and Cath) for some house furnishing shopping and lunch at Chinatown. I rem the bare trees of winter, the crisp cold air that cuts through you and the lovely fresh air.
- In the mist, there is my SIS ROM that I missed, and Ying's special wedding at Bintan that I missed.
- Since then its been 5 mths of 'honeymoon' (termed by my pals here haha). Doing my laundry, cleaning my room, cooking dinner on most nights, exploring Adelaide, making friends and most imptly learning to be independent.
- Studied real hard but I had the best study time in Adelaide. People are knowledgable and talk to share, unlike in SMU, Talk crap for participation marks. What a shame!! Life in Adelaide makes me dislike the materialistic, competitive and pretentious nature of Singaporeans.
I rem when i came back I so hate that I cant get a seat on the bus even at off-peak time.
I hate ah nehs and ah peks looking at you opening like they NV see gals before.
I hate that I have to dress for strangers approval (my sis so reminded me "but in SG people will say you when you wear lidat").
I hate having no control over meals and furniture in my own bedroom.
I hate the constant yakking of people, the questions tt family ask and nags.
I hate the noisy kids (sorry man kids there are lovely) and loud teenagers
I hate listening in teens conversation of "oh I can sneak into St James with my couz ID and I so hate those underage clubs". For God sake, St james is catered for an older crowd !! Not some flimsy teen that have to sneak in. And YOU ARE UNDERAGE URSELF. And wads the deal with underage clubbing. What ya trying to prove? My gosh. Stay your age and grow up the rate you are supposed to kiddo!!
And I hate that there are tons more things to Hate here!!
- Okies back to biz... after my sem ends in Aust, its off to travel Goldcoast and Melb. Of cuz during the mid term break, we had a road trip to Kangaroo Island (its burned now due to bush fires in the dry Summer). Great thanks to Iris for planning and Heedong for being our great driver. This guy is a Gem!
- In GC, its was fun at the theme parks, beach, shopping... In melb its also fun, tho not much shopping done and I had lunch at Fifteen (jamie oliver set up the restaurant).
- Back to SG on Xmas on a FULL flight :) hated the weather. Nuff said
- Hui's wedding dinner 2 days after. Its a little surreal that one of ur close pals is married. Congrats gal!!
- On 31st its bf's birthday. Nothing fancy since we had the best days in adelaide together. Then came 1st Jan our 6th year Anni, nothing fancy too cuz we learned that each other's company is the best gift. But thanks de for dinner at Da Paolo!!! Nv fail to bring me to nice restaurants in SG on special occasions. *muackz*
***************************************************************************
As you can read, the main highlight is def my life in Adelaide for the past 5-6 mths. Living there changed my life and changed my perspactive in life. Its money well spent there since i also learned that money aint everything altho it means quite alot in SG.
With this I wish everyone a Great 2008 ahead and I hope 2008 bring to each and everyone of us a pleasant surprise and the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and the world around us.
